PRIMERS PROGRAMME
The Primers Programme is conducted in Tertiary Institutions, for Boys aged 17 to 21, based on the theme of Service and Leadership. It primarily caters to Boys who have participated in the Juniors and/or Seniors Programme and youths who did not have the opportunity to join The Boys' Brigade previously.
Brigade-level courses are held to offer leadership exposures as well as skills development. Primers are developed in the following aspects:
![]() Service Primers return to serve their Juniors/Seniors Companies to assist the Officers in conducting parades, a voluntary commitment to give back to their Companies they have learned and benefitted from. | ![]() Leadership At the Brigade-level, Primers are presented with opportunities to showcase their leadership skills as they embark on Primers Challenge, an overseas expedition in unfamiliar settings. | ![]() Community Service Primers also serve in active roles for our national community service projects, namely, BB Share-a-Gift and BB CARES. |

I remembered watching the execution of drills that the Boys demonstrated on stage during morning assembly. After talking to the seniors from BB, I was intrigued by the different activities and courses offered like kayaking, archery and First Aid Course, and thus decided to select BB at the top of my list of my CCA choices. My most memorable experience in BB was the 2023 Character Quest (SP), which I was part of the planning committee. Organising a large-scale event for over 700 participants allowed me to gain experience in event planning, coordinating with different teams, and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Throughout my journey with BB, I have developed a strong sense of purpose by mentoring juniors and giving back to the community. The values and skills cultivated through BB have enriched my daily life and shaped my outlook on leadership and community involvement by encouraging me to take on other positions and projects." "Among the many unforgettable memories as a Primer, one of the most impactful experiences was training for BB Blaze. Planning and guiding the Boys through months of preparation was challenging yet fulfilling. There were times I doubted myself, wondering if I could juggle the responsibility alongside my commitments in school and other BB roles. On top of overseeing weekly Blaze training and mentoring the Boys through physical and mental challenges, I was also actively involved in organising the Brigade’s Founder’s Award Presentation Ceremony. Coordinating across multiple units and ensuring effective communication, all while balancing my role as a mentoring coordinator and Primer-in-charge for leadership and badgework, pushed me to grow as a leader and time manager. Looking back, I am incredibly proud of the Boys who sought to give their all during Blaze and apply what they learned to their own journeys was deeply encouraging. It reminded me that our actions, however small, can leave a lasting impact, and that with commitment and purpose, we can rise above the weight of our many responsibilities to serve well."
