Mr James Milner Fraser, an architect from Britain, started the 1st Singapore Company on 12 January 1930 at Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church and was the longest serving Brigade President in the history of The Boys’ Brigade in Singapore (1936 to 1955). He was also instrumental in starting the movement in Hong Kong as work took him there.
On 28 May 2016, The Boys’ Brigade in Singapore celebrated the achievements of its Companies at the J M Fraser Awards Presentation Ceremony – an award aptly named to recognise their spirit of excellence and hard work.
Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Heng Chee How, joined more than 450 BB Officers, Boys, Principals, teachers and volunteers at ITE College West for this occasion.
Guests were treated to a rousing pipe band performance and for the first time, Boys from the 53rd and 84th Singapore Companies showcased their percussion ensemble of 7 cajon players and a percussionist.
A total of 102 Companies were awarded the J M Fraser Award for Excellence this year for achieving high standards in delivering the BB programme as well as their ability to engage parents and other key stakeholders.
The Best Juniors Company was awarded to the 33J Singapore Company, while the Best Seniors Company was awarded to the 49th Singapore Company.
