Before dawn on 12 April 2014, 572 Boys from 64 Seniors Programme Companies participated in the adventure race that they have been training so hard for – BB Blaze 2014. This year, the race stretched from Punggol to Choa Chu Kang.
Boys from the various Companies reported excitedly at the Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) Reception Centre for registration and were directed to the Holding Area where they had to plot and plan the first leg of the race route in the dark.
After the safety briefing and the warm up session, Boys were all ready for the race!
With adrenalin pumping, the race began and was flagged off by our Honorary President, Lt Gen (Ret) Winston Choo along with Brigade President, Professor Ho Yew Kee!
Similar to previous years, this year’s BB Blaze was broken up into 3 different legs, each consisting of various activities for Boys to be engaged in.
As the Boys ran past the lamp posts along Leg 1 of the race, they were faced with a series of mental calculations.
After the mental calculations and solving of puzzles, the Boys arrived at Punggol Marina Country Club where the teams have to split – two of them had to kayak towards Yishun Dam while remaining two have to travel by foot.
Meeting up at Yishun Dam after Kayaking, Boys ran towards Lower Seletar Reservoir Park where they picked their mountain bikes and cycled off to the next leg of the race into Mandai Trail.
Disembarking from their mountain bikes at a grass patch at Segar Road, Boys found themselves going through some tyre obstacles before heading to their last checkpoint at Zhenghua Secondary School where they had to do some abseiling and rockclimbing activities.
The winner for BB Blaze this year goes to… Team 110 of 91st Singapore Company!
We were privileged to have Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development to grace our event. The Brigade Executive members hosted our Guest-of-Honour and gave her an overview of the race this year with a blown-up map of the entire route. '
