BOTC 01/13

Forty-two Officer Cadets took the next step to advance their and leadership and facilitation skills by signing up for the Basic Officers Training Course (BOTC) 2013. The objective of the BOTC is to prepare our Officers and volunteers to serve more effectively in their respective BB Companies.

During one of the sessions, the Officers were exposed to the dangers of cyberspace, with topics such as The World-Social Media and World Danger – Cyber Wellness. This session was particularly enriching for the trainees to catch up with the latest development in the internet world and the possible pitfalls that our Boys will be exposed to if not guided carefully.

The session on Games That Teach served to equip Officers with knowledge and skills to conduct games with simple resources such as ropes and strings. Many new and interesting ice-breaker games were also introduced – games that Officers can employ to help fill up lull periods.

Over the weekend of 11 & 12 May, the BOTC trainees went for their overseas adventure expedition.  It was filled with fun and exciting activities such as water obstacles, tree climbing and even field cooking.  The trainees came up with creative recipes that fed 42 hungry stomachs at the end of Day 1.  The activities definitely tested the trainees’ physical limits.  Through the vigorous activities, the trainees were able to appreciate the practical application of RAMS, as the instructors explained the rationale and considerations before conducting the activities. This gave them the confidence to organise similar outdoor activities for the Boys in their BB Companies.

After many hours of lessons and training, our trainees not only successfully completed their BOTC with a new set of skills but also forged new friendships with fellow BB Officers.
