In the early hours of 13 April 2013, 476 Boys from 62 Seniors Programme Companies participated in the highly-anticipated adventure race of the year for the Seniors Programme –BB Blaze. This year, the race took on the Western part of Singapore.
Excited Boys from the different Companies gathered at Kent Ridge Secondary School before dawn for registration and was directed to their Holding area where they were given time to plot and plan the first leg of the route.
Boys were then given a safety briefing along with a warm-up exercise before the flag-off.
With adrenalin pumping, the race began!
Similar to previous years, this year’s BB Blaze was broken up into 3 different legs, each consisting of various activities for Boys to be engaged in.
Upon reaching their first checkpoint, the Boys were tasked to micro navigate themselves within West Coast Park.
After getting lost and finding their way around the park, they found themselves running towards Pandan Reservoir where 2 members of each team kayaked out to the reservoir.
Running a distance of about 1.5 kilometres after Kayaking, Boys picked up their bicycles behind the Pump House at Pandan Reservoir and cycled off to the next leg of the race.
Traversing through the Southern Ridges, Boys ended up at the Academy of Singapore Teachers for Archery and MOE Adventure Centre for Rockclimbing and Abseiling.
The winner for BB Blaze this year goes to… Team 039 of 27th Singapore Company!
We were privileged to have Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth to grace our event. The Brigade Executive members hosted our Guest-of-Honour and gave her an overview of the race this year with a blown-up map of the entire route.
