Primers Programme - Sharity Gift Box Project

The BB Sharity Gift Box welcomes you to be part of the team!

If you are working towards the President’s Award, Anchor Award or NYAA (Gold), you can complete your Brigade Involvement Project or Residential Project section in NYAA (Gold) by completing a 5-days practical project with us!

Find out more about how you can be involved and sign up to be part of our team!

Objectives

The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box aims to give a meaningful exposure to Primers working towards the President’s Award, Anchor Award or the National Youth Achievement Award – Gold (NYAA – Gold) in a Brigade Level Community Service Project. The experience will give them exposure to operations and events beyond just their own Company activities.

In SGB, we aim to equip and allow our Primers to develop maturity, leadership and responsibility by allowing them to plan, organise and execute the task in the operations. They will undergo relevant training to empower them to make decisions and give directions to Boys under their care.

Process

Primers will have to complete, in the following order:

A. 1 Training Session (3 hours)

B. 5 days of Practical Involvement

C. 1 Key Event (Only applicable for President’s Award Applicants)

Training Session

The date for the training session is:

25 Nov 2009 Wednesday                                  6pm to 9pm                                  BB Campus, Fraser Hall

The training consists of the following components:

·         Admin briefing (30 mins)

·         Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by department (45 mins)

·         Hard skill and safety training (30 mins)

·         Scenario-based discussions (15 mins)

·         Discussion and planning (within a shift) (60 mins)

The training is a condensed simulation of a day in SGB operations. This is to ensure that the Primers are clear on the SOP and would be able to execute the task independently. The purpose of the training is to equip Primers with knowledge and skills for good decision making.

If Primers are unable to attend the training with a valid reason, upon the approval of the Operations Sub-Com Chairman and the Education & Training Sub-Com Chairman, Primer would report a day earlier than his/her shift, and will understudy another Primer. Primers should not sign up for the first shift if you are unable to turn up for the training.

Only trained applicants will be allowed to undertake the 5-Days Practical Involvement.

Additional Notes for President’s Award Applicants

The President’s Award represents the epitome of our Boys’ development in The Boys’ Brigade, it is the highest award in the Primers Programme and the applicants are expected to demonstrate leadership and service of the highest quality.

Brigade Staff or Officers in the BBSGB committee are authorised to file a case against applicants who fail to meet expectations, including reporting for duty with inappropriate attire or hair length. Such cases will be reviewed by at least two officers/staff. If the applicant is found unsuitable to be deployed, he may be required to report for an additional day of duty in order to fulfil the Practical Involvement.

Any President’s Award Applicant who presents a case serious enough to warrant a failure for his Brigade Level Involvement Project will have his case escalated to the Primers Programme Committee and the Executive Director for review.
